Implant
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants offer a permanent, modern solution to replacing missing teeth. Unlike traditional dentures and bridges, implants are placed surgically into the jawbone. They act as a foundation for replacement teeth. The implant is a titanium post that integrates with bone via a process known as osseointegration. This allows the implant to function like a real tooth root.
After the implant has fused fully with the jawbone, an artificial tooth is placed to restore your smile's appearance and functionality. Dental implants, which are designed to look and feel like natural teeth, are the gold standard in tooth replacement.
Components of Dental Implant
Three main components make up each dental implant:
- The Implant Post: A titanium screw placed in the jawbone that acts as the root of the tooth.
- The Abutment: A connector that attaches to the top of the implant post and supports the artificial teeth.
- The Restoration: The visible portion of the dental implants, such as a bridge, crown, or denture, is designed to look like your natural teeth.

Dental implants can be customized to meet your specific needs and aesthetic goals. Dr. Suh can design a dental implant solution to meet your needs and goals.
The Dental Implant Process
Types of Dental Implants
We offer a variety of dental implant options to meet our patients' needs.
1. Single tooth implants
A single dental implant is a great option for replacing a missing tooth. It looks natural and lasts a lifetime. The implant post is implanted into the jawbone, and a custom-made crown is attached. This blends seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.
2. Implant-Supported Bridges
Implant-supported bridges can be a great option for patients who are missing several teeth in a line. This type of bridge does not rely on the adjacent teeth to support it. Instead, two or more implants anchor this bridge, which is stable and durable and restores function and appearance.
3. All-on-4 Implants
The All-on-4 system is designed for patients who have lost all or most of their teeth. It restores a full arch using only four strategically placed implants. This method is more cost-effective and efficient than traditional methods for replacing a full set of teeth. The results are also long-lasting.
4. Implant-Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures are a great alternative to traditional dentures if you have lost all your teeth. They're more comfortable and secure. These dentures are attached directly to dental implants. This offers improved stability and eliminates the need for adhesives. It also prevents slippage.
When teeth have been lost, dental implants in Mount Laurel NJ offer a permanent, aesthetic, fully-functional method of replacing those teeth. Dental implants offer several advantages over other types of missing tooth replacement options:
- Dental implants in Mount Laurel NJ look and feel great, just like natural teeth. You will only need to care for your dental implants like your other teeth by brushing and flossing regularly and seeing your dentist for dental implants cleanings and examinations.
- They protect your jaw bone structure in both your upper and lower jaws when you have missing teeth. With implants, your jaw bones receive the normal amount of stimulus from biting and chewing. The body will not break down this bone and absorb it as it would when teeth are missing helping prevent bone loss.
- Unlike dentures, implants won’t slip or move. You will be able to eat whatever you want rather than being restricted like you might be if you had dentures.
- Implants can last for many decades. Bridges may not last that long and dentures often need replacing from time to time.
- Implants can also be used to secure bridges, partial dentures or complete dentures as well as being replacements for individual missing tooths.
Infection Prevention with Platelet-Rich Fibrin
At Mount Laurel Dental & Implant Center, we are pleased to offer our patients infection prevention with platelet-rich fibrin. This innovative treatment both improves healing time and helps fight infection after dental implant placement.
Platelet-rich fibrin comes from your own blood. While you’re being prepared for a dental implant or extraction, we will take a vial of your blood. This vial is placed in a centrifuge (medical spinning machine) where it is spun for several minutes. Your blood will separate into three layers: a layer of dark red cells, an almost-clear layer of plasma and a small jelly-like layer of platelet-rich fibrin.
This fibrin contains a high proportion of proteins that improve the healing of surgical sites such as when teeth are pulled or dental implants are placed. Placing fibrin in these areas that have experienced surgery helps them form a protective clot and begin healing more quickly. There is a reduced chance of a dry socket that occurs when the blood clot is lost. A dry socket lengthens healing time and can be quite painful.
Our implant dentistry in Mount Laurel NJ began offering treatment with platelet-rich fibrin because we want the very best results for each one of our patients.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are more than just a way to fill in the gaps in your smile. The benefits of dental implants are functional, aesthetic, and health-related. They are a great option for patients who need to replace missing teeth.
Durable and Long-Lasting
Durability is one of the biggest advantages of dental implants. Dental implants can last for a lifetime with proper care. The titanium post resists decay, and because it is integrated with the jawbone, it creates a secure and stable foundation that will not shift or become loose over time. Implants are a more durable solution than other options for tooth replacement, such as dentures and bridges. These may require replacement every five to ten years.
Natural Look and Feel
Dental implants blend in seamlessly with existing teeth in appearance and functionality. Restorations for implants are made to match your natural teeth in color, size, shape, and texture. This ensures that your smile is uniform and natural. Because implants are attached to the jawbone, you can chew, smile, and speak with confidence.
Improved Oral Health
Dental implants are different from traditional bridges, which require the adjacent teeth to be filed to support restorations. Implants do not impact your natural teeth. They preserve your healthy teeth and lower the chances of developing future dental problems. Dental implants also stimulate the growth of bone in the jaw to prevent bone loss, which is common when teeth are lost. Dental implants preserve the jawbone and help to maintain your facial structure.
Restored Functionality
It can be difficult to maintain good oral hygiene, eat certain foods, or speak clearly when you have missing teeth. Dental implants allow you to speak and chew naturally. You can enjoy a variety of foods and participate in social events without fear that your teeth will slip or shift.
Confidence Enhanced
A beautiful, complete smile can make a huge difference to your confidence and self-esteem. Dental implants improve your smile's aesthetics, but they also give you the confidence that your teeth will not move or fall out. After receiving dental implants, many patients feel more confident about their appearance. This boost in confidence can improve both personal and professional relationships.
